Houthi Rebels Attack Liberian-Flagged Container Ship Amid Fresh Tensions

A Liberian-flagged container ship was hit by a missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels while navigating the Gulf of Aden, authorities revealed on Sunday. The attack marks the first by the group since Israeli airstrikes targeted them.

The Houthis have not explained their two-week hiatus from attacking ships traversing the Red Sea corridor. However, the strike follows the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, raising concerns of regional conflict.

The Joint Maritime Information Centre, managed by a US Navy-led multinational coalition, confirmed the missile struck the Groton container ship, causing minor damage and resulting in no casualties. The vessel has been diverted to a nearby port.
