Himachal Pradesh CM Boosts Police Patrol Capabilities with New Equipment
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the procurement of advanced equipment for police patrolling in Shimla, Nurpur, Kangra, and Mandi districts. The equipment, costing Rs 27 crore, includes motorcycles, speed guns, body-worn cameras, alcohol sensors, and more. An additional Rs 90 crore will fund integrated road safety systems and AI-connected cameras.

In a significant move to enhance police capabilities, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday flagged off 25 new motorcycles intended for police patrolling in Shimla and Nurpur districts. The inauguration ceremony was held at Chaura Maidan.
Sukhu revealed that 19 high-visibility patrolling motorcycles have been allocated to Shimla Police and six to Nurpur Police, with the combined cost reaching Rs 3.72 crore. The state has also provided 30 hand-held speed guns, 10 body-worn cameras, 18 alcohol sensors, and the installation of 30 vehicle-activated speed signs for Shimla Police.
Significantly, the Shimla Police now possess 80 expandable barriers, 225 reflective jackets, 115 rechargeable batons, 200 traffic cones, 70 interlocking plastic barricades, and 30 search lights. Equipment worth Rs 27 crore has been sanctioned to bolster police efficiency in traffic enforcement, surveillance, and emergency response in Shimla, Kangra, and Mandi districts. The procurement also includes 42 four-wheelers, 27 two-wheelers, 14 interceptor vehicles, and various emergency response tools.
CM Sukhu indicated that the procurement process would be completed by March 2025 and emphasized that an additional Rs 90 crore is aimed at implementing an integrated road safety enforcement system in Shimla. This will also see the installation of 532 AI-connected cameras at 214 strategic points across the three districts.
