West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged the people of her state to maintain peace amid the ongoing unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh. Addressing reporters at the West Bengal assembly, Banerjee called for calm and advised against any communal behaviour. She emphasized the importance of not taking the law into one’s own hands.
Banerjee also appealed to political parties to avoid making controversial remarks that could disrupt peace. Refraining from commenting on the situation in Bangladesh, she left the matter to the Ministry of External Affairs. The Chief Minister criticized certain BJP leaders for posting inappropriate content and urged everyone, including her party members, to be cautious about their social media activity.
The West Bengal police echoed Banerjee’s sentiments and urged citizens not to share provocative posts or fall prey to fake news. This appeal came after social media posts about the unrest in Bangladesh began circulating, potentially inciting discord within the state.
