BSF Ramps Up Security Amidst Unrest in Bangladesh

The BSF met with state officials and villagers in West Bengal's border areas to enhance security following unrest in Bangladesh. The Border Security Force (BSF) convened meetings with state officials and border villagers in West Bengal on Tuesday to bolster security in response to the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh.

BSF's Acting Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary and senior commanders toured the border areas, including the Petrapole border in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas. Petrapole, South Asia’s largest land port, plays a crucial role in India-Bangladesh trade. 'The situation is under control, and security has been increased along the entire stretch. We are coordinating with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB),' a BSF eastern command official told PTI.

The BSF issued a 'high alert' across its 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border formations on Monday due to developments in Bangladesh. 'The focus is on vigilance to prevent infiltration and smuggling,' a BSF statement read. Villagers have been advised to avoid border areas at night and all shops to close by 9 pm, with announcements from mosques supporting the directive.
