A violent clash erupted on Tuesday in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, resulting in injuries to 44 people, including nine police personnel, as reported by an official.
Security forces had to resort to baton charging and firing in the air to manage protestors deviating from their permitted route. Protestors, demanding the removal of illegal settlers from Professional and Village Grazing Reserves (PGR and VGR), retaliated by pelting stones at the police.
Karbi Superintendent of Police Sanib Kumar Saikia confirmed the arrest of four individuals. The incident followed a previous clash in February and involved organized efforts by groups like the Karbi Students Association and ASDC's youth wing. The contentious issue of land encroachment is currently pending in the Gauhati High Court.
