At least two people lost their lives on Thursday when Russian troops shelled Kostiantynivka, a town in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, according to the regional governor.

The morning strike devastated a residential district. Ukrainian-held sections of Donetsk frequently endure Russian shelling and air strikes as Moscow asserts control over large parts of the region.

Donetsk remains a key battleground, with Russian forces targeting areas near the strategic eastern logistics hub of Pokrovsk. The incident follows a deadly Wednesday shelling that killed four and recent clashes in Russia's Kursk region, linked to Ukrainian efforts to stretch Russian resources.
