Alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar has penned a letter to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, offering a Rs 15 crore contribution to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund in the wake of a devastating landslide in Wayanad district.
Currently incarcerated in Mandoli jail, Chandrasekhar expressed his deep sorrow over the current plight of Kerala and conveyed his desire to aid in this critical time. His legal representative, Anant Malik, affirmed the letter's authenticity.
Chandrasekhar's appeal stated, “I am hereby requesting to accept my contribution of Rs 15 crore towards the relief fund, from my foundation today, addressed in favour of Chief ministers, distress relief fund... Apart from the above-mentioned contribution being done today, I also pledge my support for further contribution to build 300 houses for the affected on an immediate basis.”
Asserting that the contribution stemmed from “legitimate business accounts,” Chandrasekhar urged the state to use the funds for the rehabilitation of those affected by the landslide. The state government has yet to respond.
Chandrasekhar and his wife are jailed on multiple charges of money laundering and fraud. The landslides have left 138 people missing and claimed 226 lives, with search operations ongoing involving over 1,500 personnel and volunteers.
