External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Friday that the government is awaiting the release of 69 Indian nationals who were misled into joining the Russian army. The minister addressed the Lok Sabha, highlighting that the CBI has initiated a criminal case against 19 individuals and entities involved in this fraudulent recruitment.
Jaishankar emphasized that the government is focused on securing the return of these individuals. He clarified that the matter was personally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with President Vladimir Putin, and assurances were received about the discharge and release of the Indian nationals.
Additionally, Jaishankar shed light on instances of cyber trafficking affecting Indians in South East Asia, with a concerted effort to repatriate affected citizens. The government remains vigilant and committed to cracking down on such illegal activities.
