The Delhi Police have seized over 12,000 reels of banned Chinese 'manjha' in a series of operations, resulting in the arrest of three individuals. The action follows strict directives to curb the sale of the dangerous synthetic kite string, notorious for causing severe injuries, including fatalities.
Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Shalini Singh stated that coordinated efforts by the central range and cyber cell led to the massive haul. Prem Chand, a shop owner, was caught with 11,820 reels in a Rohini godown, followed by the arrests of Adnan and Asjad in separate operations recovering a total of 323 reels.
The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to enforce the ban on Chinese manjha instituted in 2017, aimed at preventing harm to humans, birds, and the environment. The police have so far registered 78 FIRs and arrested 79 people this year alone in relation to the sale of the illicit manjha.
