West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday demanded the death penalty for the accused involved in the sexual assault and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor.

The woman's body was found in a seminar hall of a government-operated hospital in north Kolkata on Friday, with initial autopsy reports indicating sexual abuse before her death.

Chief Minister Banerjee supported the ongoing protests by junior doctors demanding severe punishment for the culprits and stated that the government is open to any investigating agency probing the case, including the CBI.
