Three engineers from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) have been suspended over alleged irregularities in the construction of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official bungalow in the Civil Lines area, according to officials. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which oversees the CPWD, issued the suspension orders on August 5 and has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the engineers.
The suspended engineers, who previously worked under the Delhi government's Public Works Department (PWD), were involved in the construction of Kejriwal's official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road in north Delhi's Civil Lines. They were accused of violating rules and causing significant cost escalations under the guise of superior modifications, as per the Delhi government's Vigilance Directorate.
Documents from the Vigilance Directorate reveal that the officers were issued showcause notices in June 2023 and resorted to delaying tactics, including approaching the court, but failed to secure any relief. Until recently, the engineers were posted in Guwahati and Kharagpur before their suspension.
