The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Seeni Aabulkhan, a primary suspect in a trans-national human trafficking operation orchestrated by a Sri Lankan with past affiliations to the LTTE, an official statement confirmed on Saturday.

Seeni Aabulkhan was captured in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, where investigations revealed his involvement with associates in holding trafficked victims on a boat before sending them to Mangalore using various means of transport for further confinement, the NIA stated.

The NIA took over the case from Mangaluru City Police after rescuing 13 Sri Lankan nationals in June 2021. Investigations identified Eesan, a Sri Lankan with former LTTE links, as the ringleader. Eesan allegedly promised 38 Sri Lankans documentation and employment in Canada, luring them into the racket. The NIA has charged 10 people and continues to pursue the remaining suspects.
