In a disturbing incident near Ghaziabad's Guldhar railway station, members of a Hindu right-wing outfit led by Bhupendra Chowdhary and Badal assaulted locals and vandalized their shanties, purportedly accusing them of being Bangladeshi infiltrators, police reported on Saturday.
The victims, identified as Indian citizens from Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur, were not illegal immigrants according to an investigation, confirmed by Ghaziabad Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra. Authorities are considering invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against the perpetrators.
Following an FIR filed by Sub-Inspector Sanjiv Kumar, who witnessed the violence and attempted to stop the attackers, legal proceedings have been initiated against Chowdhary and 20 unidentified individuals under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rioting, causing hurt, and religious offences.
