Search operations in Wayanad to locate missing individuals after recent landslides were paused due to heavy rainfall in Mundakkai and Chooralmala, officials announced Sunday. Efforts will resume on August 12 and 13, revealed cabinet sub-committee members.
State Minister P A Mohammed Riyas informed that a robust 190-member team, including NDRF, police, and various rescue units, will partake in the search across five zones. Additionally, 253 rental houses are set for rehabilitating landslide survivors, with basic furniture and appliances provided.
The expansive search on Sunday saw the involvement of 2,000 people. Notably, three body parts were recovered, adding to a tally of 229 deceased, with 130 still missing. Currently, 1,770 individuals, including women and children, are accommodated in relief camps. A special camp to recover lost official documents will be organized by the Local Self-Government Department.
