On Tuesday, Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus reached out to the distressed Hindu community, visiting the centuries-old Dhakeshwari temple. He urged them to exercise patience and assured punitive actions against those responsible for recent attacks on the minority members.
Yunus, an 84-year-old economist who took charge of the interim government on August 8, emphasized the need for ensuring equal rights and blamed institutional decay for the country's plight. His visit coincided with the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance reporting attacks and threats at 278 locations across 48 districts since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5.
Deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina faces a murder trial alongside six others for deaths during last month's clashes. Thousands of Hindus staged protests demanding protection and legislative changes to safeguard minority rights. In parallel, limited operations resumed at the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka amid ongoing instability.
