In a major advancement for digital health education in India, the National Health Authority (NHA) and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance digital health training. The agreement was formalized today in the presence of Union Health Minister, Shri J P Nadda.

Under this collaboration, MUHS will provide its Digital Health Foundation Course (DHFC) to NHA and co-develop additional digital health programs to support the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). This initiative aims to foster a more integrated and effective healthcare ecosystem across India. The MoU also outlines plans for developing additional courses in the future.

Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating, “The MoU between NHA and MUHS represents a crucial step in incorporating digital health education into medical training and establishing a connected healthcare system. This collaboration will enhance the skills of healthcare professionals and support the broader implementation of ABDM, ultimately improving healthcare access for millions of Indians.”

He further emphasized the need for ongoing capacity-building for health workers to effectively implement the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Shri Nadda praised MUHS for designing a course tailored to the needs of health workers and assured that NHA would work to implement these advancements at the grassroots level to strengthen the healthcare system.

Smt. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, CEO of NHA, noted, “Digital Health is a rapidly evolving field, and increasing awareness among all health sector stakeholders is crucial. Our partnership with MUHS will be transformative, accelerating the adoption of digital health solutions across India and ensuring that future healthcare professionals are equipped to use these technologies for better patient care and efficient healthcare delivery.”

Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar (Retd), Vice-Chancellor of MUHS, expressed pride in making Maharashtra the first state in India to integrate Digital Health into the medical curriculum. “The DHFC is a key component in preparing healthcare professionals for the digital transformation and ABDM adoption. We are excited to support NHA in the national roll-out of this initiative.”

The DHFC, created with support from the Koita Foundation, offers a comprehensive introduction to Digital Health principles. It will be available to medical students, practicing doctors, and healthcare professionals through platforms like Mission Karmayogi’s iGOT platform, allowing for Digital Health certification and continuing medical education credits.

Union Health Secretary Shri Apurva Chandra, senior officials from the Union Health Ministry, Shri Rizwan Koita, Director of the Koita Foundation, and other senior MUHS officials were also present at the signing ceremony.
