Calcutta High Court Orders CBI Probe into Trainee Doctor's Rape and Murder

The Calcutta High Court has transferred the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor from Kolkata Police to the CBI. This decision follows failure in significant progress by the city police and protests by doctors for better security. A civic volunteer has been arrested.

The Calcutta High Court has ordered the transfer of the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court directed the city police to hand over the case diary to the CBI by Tuesday evening and all related documents by Wednesday morning.

The order follows Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's vow to hand over the case to the central agency if city police failed to make progress by Sunday. The deceased doctor's body was discovered on Friday, and a civic volunteer has been arrested in connection with the case.
