Police requested an extension to present the case diary, pushing the next hearing to August 16. The case shifted from an attempt to rape to rape charges based on medical examination results of the 15-year-old girl.
Accused Nawab Singh Yadav, a former block chief and alleged close aide of SP leader Dimple Yadav, was arrested on Monday after the girl and her aunt reached out to the police. The incident has resulted in a heated political exchange between the ruling BJP and the opposition SP.
