A security guard was detained by police in Indore on Wednesday after allegedly opening fire during an encroachment removal operation, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya. The incident occurred near the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) in the Banganga police station area.
According to Dandotiya, the security guard fired into the air, causing panic among the administration team, who were attempting to clear seven acres of illegally occupied land. No injuries were reported, but a video of the incident showed the team running for cover.
The security guard was taken into custody, while two other guards managed to escape. They were staying in a structure built by a person named Suresh Patel on the disputed land. The land is owned by Dr. Vinod Bhandari, founder president of SAIMS, and the Madhya Pradesh High Court had ordered its clearance.
Dandotiya added that appropriate legal actions are being taken regarding the firing incident.
