Trump Faces Setback in Hush Money Case as Judge Rejects Recusal Bid
Donald Trump lost another attempt to replace the judge in his New York hush money case. Judge Juan M. Merchan ruled against recusal due to perceived impartiality, despite allegations of a conflict of interest due to his daughter’s political consultancy work. The judge remains steadfast in fair and impartial handling.
Donald Trump has lost his latest bid to obtain a new judge in his New York hush money case as it heads toward a key ruling and potential sentencing next month. The rejection came from Judge Juan M. Merchan, who dismissed Trump's request as a rehash 'rife with inaccuracies and unsubstantiated claims.'
This marks the third refusal by Merchan, who has been accused by Trump's attorneys of holding a conflict of interest due to his daughter's political consultancy for high-profile Democrats, including Kamala Harris. Merchan, however, reaffirmed his impartiality and commitment to justice, noting his ability to judge fairly.
The matter has stirred strong reactions from both sides. Trump's attorney, Todd Blanche, argued the supposed conflict has become 'even more concrete' with Harris now a political opponent. Conversely, prosecutors labeled the claims as 'vexatious and frivolous,' underscoring the judge's previous ethical clearance to preside over the case.
