International mediators are convening in Qatar for a critical round of talks aimed at ending the Israel-Hamas war, now in its 11th month, and securing the release of numerous hostages. Delegations from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt will meet with Israeli representatives to discuss a potential deal seen as crucial to preventing a broader regional conflict.
The Palestinian death toll has reached near 40,000, and Gaza's health system is on the brink of collapse. Most hospitals are shut down or have been raided by Israeli forces, who claim militants are using them as shelters—a charge denied by hospital staff. Amidst this dire situation, the World Health Organization successfully evacuated 11 children with cancer to Jordan for treatment.
A cease-fire in Gaza could de-escalate tensions and potentially deter Iran and Hezbollah from retaliatory actions against Israel. The planned negotiations are centered on a three-phase plan for lasting peace, involving the release of hostages by Hamas in exchange for Israel withdrawing from Gaza and freeing Palestinian prisoners.
