Russian Advances Near Pokrovsk Amid Escalating Eastern Ukraine Tensions
Russia claims strategic gains near Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, taking control of Ivanivka village. Ukraine's surprise attack on Russia's Kursk region aimed to divert Russian forces. Despite conflicting reports and heavy fighting, the situation remains tense with no sign of reduced Russian pressure.
Russia announced on Thursday that its military forces have taken control of Ivanivka, a village situated just 16 km from the critical city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. The city is strategically important due to its positioning on major supply routes for Ukrainian forces.
According to Russia's defence ministry, the capture of Ivanivka is part of a concerted effort to reach the main roads from Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. The ministry highlighted a series of victories across the Kharkhiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions, emphasizing Russia's dominance along the eastern front.
Meanwhile, Ukraine reported ongoing heavy fighting near Pokrovsk and denied any alleviation in Russian military pressure. The conflict continues to escalate, with both sides presenting differing accounts of battlefield conditions.
