Russian Border Defences Bolstered Amidst Ukrainian Incursion

Following Ukraine's major incursion into Russia on Aug. 6, which marks the biggest attack on Russian territory since World War II, Russia is strengthening its border defences. Measures include improving command and control and deploying additional forces. The conflict continues to escalate, affecting border regions and the broader narrative of the war.

Russia announced on Thursday that it is stepping up its border defences following Ukraine's significant incursion into Russian territory on Aug. 6. This attack is the largest on Russian soil since World War II and has prompted Russia to enhance its command, control systems, and send additional troops.

The powerful Russian military, typically ranked alongside the USA and China, has yet to publicly explain how Ukrainian forces penetrated its defences. Defence Minister Andrei Belousov indicated that Russia's general staff had devised measures to secure the border regions of Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod.

Belousov emphasized the need to improve cooperation between the command and control system and other law enforcement agencies. He assured that additional forces and funding would ensure the security and integrity of Russian territory. Despite vulnerabilities exposed by this incursion, Russian officials maintain that this will not alter the war's trajectory.
