CBI Probes Trainee Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case

CBI officers visited the home of a doctor who was raped and murdered in a Kolkata hospital. They interviewed her parents, questioned hospital staff, and examined call records of a suspect. The investigation follows a directive from the high court to take over the case from Kolkata Police.

CBI officers on Thursday visited the residence of the doctor who was raped and murdered at a Kolkata hospital, and spoke to her parents as part of their investigation, an official said.

The investigators noted the time they received the hospital's notification about her death.

The officers also inquired about the victim’s friends and any problems she faced at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where she was a postgraduate trainee doctor.

''It was difficult to speak to a couple who have lost their daughter in such a manner,'' the officer said.

The CBI also interrogated five doctors of the hospital, its former medical superintendent-cum-vice-principal, principal, and the head of the Chest Department where the victim's body was found.

The CBI also interviewed the officer-in-charge of the Tala police station, under whose jurisdiction the hospital falls.

The investigators have sought details of Civic Volunteer Sanjay Roy's call records and mobile tower location. He was arrested after the victim's body was discovered on Friday.

''We are also looking into data usage on his mobile to ascertain whether he made any video or internet voice calls,'' the officer said.

A CBI team also visited the hospital and spoke to intern doctors, nurses, and others present on the fateful night.

The CBI took over the investigation following a high court directive to assume control from Kolkata Police.
