A tailor named Haneef Khan, 40, was arrested in Bhopal on Independence Day for hoisting a Palestinian flag outside his tailoring shop, according to a police official.

Khan hoisted the flag outside his shop near Geetanjali Girls College on PGBT Road and was produced before the assistant commissioner of police, who remanded him to judicial custody on Friday. Khan faces charges under section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 for allegedly insulting the national flag, as confirmed by Narendra Singh Thakur, Inspector of Gautam Nagar Police Station, to PTI.

Police were alerted by local BJP and RSS leaders, including local corporator Devendra Bhargava, who sought action against Khan. Following a round of questioning, the flag was removed, and Khan was subsequently arrested.
