Gaza Ceasefire Negotiations in Doha: Making Progress Amidst Tensions

Gaza ceasefire talks in Doha paused on Friday with negotiators set to reconvene next week, aiming to reach an agreement to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas and secure the release of remaining hostages, according to U.S. President Joe Biden, who noted, "we're not there yet."

The U.S., Qatar, and Egypt jointly announced that Washington had proposed a new plan, building on points of consensus from recent discussions, facilitating swift deal implementation. Mediators affirmed ongoing efforts to finalize the proposal.

The statement added, "The path is now set for that outcome, saving lives, bringing relief to the people of Gaza, and de-escalating regional tensions." The negotiations have been ongoing for months, with Israeli forces continuing airstrikes on Gaza, where the death toll includes tens of thousands of Palestinians, primarily civilians.
