Russia Denies Derailed Talks Amid Kursk Attack Allegations

Russia denied a report by The Washington Post claiming that Ukraine's attack on Kursk derailed potential talks on halting strikes on civilian infrastructure. Both countries are accused of attacking civilian targets during the conflict. A proposed summit in Qatar has been postponed, per Ukraine's presidential office.

Russia on Sunday firmly denied reports that Ukraine's recent attack on the Kursk region had disrupted indirect negotiations to halt strikes on energy and power targets. According to a Washington Post report, Ukraine and Russia were scheduled to send delegations to Qatar this month to negotiate an agreement.

The Post indicated this agreement would have been a partial ceasefire, potentially marking a significant step forward. However, it claimed the talks were derailed by Ukraine's attack on Russian territory. Russia's foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova refuted these claims, emphasizing, 'No one broke anything off because there was nothing to break off.'

Ukraine's government has yet to respond to these allegations. Meanwhile, the proposed summit in Doha has been postponed due to the situation in the Middle East and is now slated as a video conference on August 22. This comes as both nations accuse each other of targeting civilian infrastructure, a claim both deny.
