A U.S. judge on Monday denied Hunter Biden’s attempt to dismiss a federal tax evasion case brought against him in California.
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, had previously been convicted in Delaware for lying about his illegal drug use to buy a gun. He is scheduled to go to trial in September for the tax evasion charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Biden argued that David Weiss, the special counsel leading the prosecutions, had been illegally appointed.
Biden’s argument relied on a federal judge’s decision to dismiss a criminal case against former President Donald Trump, where it was found the special counsel was not properly authorized. However, U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi in Los Angeles saw no valid basis to rethink his earlier order denying Biden's motion to dismiss the tax evasion indictment.
