Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan criticized the West Bengal government’s alleged insensitive response to the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor. He expressed concern over the 'fear psychosis' that has gripped the country's children following the heinous crime.
Speaking to reporters at IIT Kharagpur, Pradhan stressed that both state and central governments must adhere to Supreme Court directives on this issue. He condemned the state government for its 'don't care' attitude and unsuccessful attempts to conceal evidence.
Pradhan noted the Supreme Court's call for strong action and criticized the state government for becoming 'deaf to the cries of justice.' He also mentioned the arrested civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, who continued in service despite his misdeeds. Offering condolences to the victim's family, Pradhan condemned the brutal incident. West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya declined to comment on Pradhan's remarks, citing the case's sub-judice status.
