Maharashtra Government Orders SIT Probe into Badlapur School Abuse Case

The Maharashtra government has instated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the alleged sexual abuse of two young girl students at a school in Badlapur, Thane district. The incident has sparked widespread protests that halted local train services.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who oversees the Home Department, announced that the SIT will be led by Inspector General of Police Aarti Singh. Fadnavis has also instructed the Thane Police Commissioner to prepare a proposal for a fast-track court trial for the case.

Authorities have arrested a school attendant suspected of abusing the three and four-year-old girls. In response, the school management suspended the principal, a class teacher, and another female attendant. The protests led by the children's parents and local women significantly hindered train operations between Karjat and Kalyan, with demonstrators refusing to stand down even after several hours.
