A fresh complaint was lodged on Tuesday with Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal against deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 23 other individuals. The complaint accuses them of crimes against humanity and genocide during a 2013 rally organized by the Islamist group Hefajat-e-Islam.
The complaint, filed by Supreme Court lawyer Gazi MH Tamim on behalf of Mufti Harun Ijahar Chowdhury, marks the fourth instance of such accusations against the former prime minister. Ataur Rahman, deputy director of the investigation agency, confirmed that the preliminary investigation is underway.
The other accused include high-profile figures such as former ministers and officials. Following massive protests, Hasina resigned and fled to India in August. BNP's Secretary-General has called for her extradition to face trial. Over 230 people were killed during the unrest, with an interim government now in place.
