The Supreme Court has highlighted the necessity of fully implementing electronic filing for legal documents, stating that asking for physical copies after digital submissions defeats the purpose of e-filing.

A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud noted on Tuesday that insisting on paper documents adds unnecessary burden on lawyers, undermining the move towards digitization. Chief Justice Chandrachud's remarks came while hearing a plea for efficient use of digital filing at the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) and state commissions (SCDRCs).

Justice A P Shahi of the NCDRC, attending virtually, pointed out state-level delays in filling judicial vacancies. This has adversely impacted judicial functions. The top court directed immediate attention to judicial appointments and urged collaboration between the NCDRC and government officials to resolve concerns relating to the new 'e-Jagriti' digital filing portal.
