The Jammu and Kashmir Election Department has initiated a major crackdown, removing over 28,000 defacements within just 72 hours of the assembly elections announcement, an official revealed.
Issued on August 16, the Election Commission's directives mandated strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the Union Territory. Consequently, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P K Pole ordered an immediate removal of all forms of defacement, including wall-writing, posters, and banners, from both government and private properties.
In response, the enforcement wing acted quickly, eliminating 28,636 defacements, which comprised 1,837 wall-writing pieces, 9,276 posters, and 5,661 banners across the region. The initiative aims to ensure no political advertisements are displayed during the MCC-restricted period, safeguarding a fair contest environment.
