NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday criticized the Maharashtra state government for its alleged neglect of women's safety responsibilities following the shocking Badlapur incident. The alleged sexual abuse of two kindergarten girls at a school there has tarnished Maharashtra's image across the nation.
Pawar, who joined the silent protest in Pune, expressed dissatisfaction with the government's stance. He accused it of insensitivity in thinking that the opposition's concern over the Badlapur incident is politically motivated. The male attendant's alleged assault on two 4-year-old girls in Thane sparked massive protests, including road and railway blockades, and clashes with the police.
The MVA, which includes the NCP (SP), Congress, and Shiv Sena (UBT), called for a 'Maharashtra Bandh' on August 24 to protest the crime. However, the Bombay High Court intervened on Friday, restraining political parties or individuals from proceeding with the bandh on the scheduled date or in the future.
