A 32-year-old tribal man, Dharmendra, allegedly committed suicide in police custody in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, sparking immediate action against local law enforcement.
The incident occurred after Dharmendra was detained by the Pandhana police on Friday upon recovery of a stolen motorcycle, stated Khandwa Superintendent of Police Manoj Rai.
Dharmendra reportedly hanged himself using a quilt within the police station lock-up. He was declared dead after being transported to multiple hospitals. Negligence on the part of the police led to the suspension of four personnel, including the station in-charge. A judicial inquiry is underway.
