The Karnataka High Court on Thursday postponed the hearing on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's petition against Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's sanction for his prosecution in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority case to Saturday. Noted lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi made his submissions in favor of Siddaramaiah.
The court extended its interim order from August 19, directing the special court for people's representatives to defer its proceedings until the next hearing. Singhvi argued that the Governor's sanction was issued without proper application of mind and violated statutory mandates.
Justice M Nagaprasanna noted that the matter would be taken up again on August 31, with Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to complete his submissions for the Governor. The Judge highlighted that the sanction decision is independent, not necessarily bound by the Cabinet's advice.
