A Delhi court is expected to announce its decision on Wednesday regarding the regular bail application of Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid, who remains imprisoned on terror funding charges.
Engineer Rashid, also known as Sheikh Abdul Rashid, triumphed over former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah in the Baramulla constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His bail plea was initially argued in an in-camera session presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh on August 28, with the order subsequently reserved.
The court had issued a notice on August 20 to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), instructing them to submit a response by August 28. Rashid has been in custody since 2019, following his arrest under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act related to a 2017 terror funding investigation. The case has connections to various high-profile defendants, including Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali and several separatist leaders.
