The Kerala government announced Tuesday that it will develop a unified portal and mobile application to facilitate the registration of migrant workers in the state.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, according to a statement from his office.
Workers registered through the portal or app will receive a unique number based on Aadhaar, and their information will be accessible to various agencies. The responsibility of registering these workers will lie with their employers, labour contractors, and building owners, who must register their details with the labour office to obtain a login ID and password.
The Labour Department will issue detailed guidelines for procedures to be followed by the Industries, Local Self-Government, and Police departments. Awareness programmes will also be conducted to educate employers, contractors, and building owners on the importance of registration.
