The incident unfolded around 3 am when police aimed to curb illegal entries into the country. They spotted a suspicious van bearing Swiss license plates, overloaded with passengers. Upon signaling the driver to stop, the vehicle sped away, leading to a catastrophic accident minutes later.
Migrants from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia frequently rely on smugglers to cross borders illegally, usually in perilously overcrowded vehicles like the one involved in this incident. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, while an investigation is ongoing.
