A Delhi court on Wednesday ordered the release of Jammu and Kashmir MP Engineer Rashid, following his grant of interim bail in a terror funding case. The decision, issued by Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, came a day after Rashid was granted the bail to facilitate his participation in the assembly elections in the union territory.

Upon release, Rashid was welcomed by his sons and supporters. The court has scheduled the order on his regular bail plea for October 5. Rashid, who defeated former chief minister Omar Abdullah as an independent candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is campaigning through his outfit Awami Ittehad Party (AIP).

The judge set conditions, including a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh, and forbade Rashid from speaking to the media about the case or influencing witnesses. Rashid, arrested in 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, is directed to return to jail on October 3, and results for the elections are expected on October 8.
