Yunus Initiates Major Reforms in Bangladesh, Emphasizes Fair Ties with Neighbors

Yunus assumed office following PM Sheikh Hasina's resignation amid protests. His interim government has started talks with India and is revitalizing SAARC for regional cooperation, while forming commissions to reform crucial sectors.

Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, on Wednesday stressed the importance of establishing fair and equal relations with India and other neighboring nations.
In his televised address, Yunus highlighted the congratulatory calls from global leaders, including India's PM Narendra Modi and Pakistan's Shehbaz Sharif, after his swearing-in ceremony.
Yunus, an 84-year-old Nobel laureate, assumed his role on August 8 following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The interim administration has commenced high-level talks with India to address flood issues and is working to revive SAARC for enhanced regional cooperation. The government is forming commissions to overhaul six key sectors, aiming to reform the electoral system, police, judiciary, anti-corruption commission, public administration, and the constitution, starting on October 1 and expected to complete their work within three months. Yunus emphasized that these reforms target ensuring equal rights for all citizens, particularly focusing on empowering the new generation.
