A case has been registered against Samajwadi Party MLA Zahid Beg and his wife Seema Beg for allegedly torturing and assaulting a minor maid, police reported on Saturday.
The Labour Department lodged the case on Friday night following a recommendation from Child Welfare Committee chairman PC Upadhyay. This action was taken after the suicide of another teenager at the MLA's residence on Monday and the rescue of a 17-year-old girl during a raid by Bhadohi Police and Labour Enforcement Department personnel on Tuesday.
Bhadohi SP Meenakshi Katyayan confirmed the case registration after questioning the rescued teenager. The minor had been working at the MLA's house for the past eight to nine years, and the recently rescued teenager had been employed there for two years—both in violation of child labor laws.
