Haifa Ports Remain Fully Operational Amid Escalating Conflict with Hezbollah

Despite the escalation in conflict with Hezbollah, Israel's ports in Haifa are maintaining normal operations. Israeli authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the city, although targeted by rockets, remains fully functional.

Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city, plays a crucial role in the country’s maritime trade. Sirens were triggered for the first time in months amidst the conflict, but the Iron Dome successfully intercepted the rockets without any damage. The Port Authority clarified that operations are unaffected across Israeli ports.

“Following recent events, it is necessary to reassure that our ports are fully open for business and functioning at full capacity,” read a statement seen by Reuters. The statement emphasized the ports' robust multi-layered security and advanced cyber security measures.

Israel's transportation ministry, which manages the ports, reiterated that all activities are coordinated with the military's home front command. The ministry promised immediate communication of any changes in the security situation.

The government has committed to compensating commercial vessels for war damage within the country’s economic waters. In response to the heightened threats, the Marshall Islands ship registry upheld its highest security level for Haifa and Ashdod ports.

Shipping and insurance sources indicated a broader threat from Yemen’s Houthi militia in the Red Sea, adding that war risk premiums have spiked. The Houthis, acting in solidarity with Palestinians, have previously attacked vessels linked to Israel, the UK, or the United States.
