Judgment Sparks CBI Probe in Dhanbad Coal Scandal

The Jharkhand High Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the probe into allegations against police officers in Dhanbad, accused of participating in illegal coal mining and sales.

Presiding over the matter, Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi found the charges serious enough to warrant an investigation by the central agency, following a journalist's report that exposed the alleged corrupt practices.

In delivering the judgment, Justice Dwivedi criticized the state government's subsequent appeal, labeling it an unjustified move as the original petition highlighted the complicity of a local police officer with the coal mafia.
