Dramatic Rescue in Pacific: Survivor Found After 67 Days at Sea

A man was rescued by Russian authorities after drifting for 67 days in the northwestern Pacific. His brother and nephew did not survive. The trio set sail in August from Khabarovsk Krai towards Sakhalin island but lost contact and went off course.

Russian authorities announced the dramatic rescue of a man whose small boat drifted aimlessly for 67 days in the northwestern Pacific waters, unfortunately, his brother and nephew perished during the journey. Distressing images shared on social media displayed the gaunt survivor, a bearded man clad in a hooded jacket and orange emergency vest, aboard a catamaran-like sailboat.

The vessel was located on October 14 in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk, a significant expanse of water measuring over 1.58 million square kilometers. The regional prosecutor's office confirmed the tragic toll: two dead, with one survivor now receiving medical treatment.

Fishermen near Ust-Khayruzovo on the Kamchatka peninsula first spotted the boat carrying the survivor and remains. Authorities cited the absence of contact following the group's departure on August 9 from Khabarovsk Krai. A month-long search yielded no results until the recent discovery of the boat a considerable distance from its intended course.
