The Sanjauli mosque in Shimla has commenced a partial demolition process following official permission from the Waqf Board, as three unauthorized storeys face removal under tight security. The mosque, a subject of controversy, aims to address community tensions.
Muhammad Latif, president of the mosque's managing committee, explained to PTI that the demolition was initiated following a directive received from the Municipal Commissioner's Court on October 5, mandating removal of the disputed sections within two months.
Despite financial struggles, the mosque committee has taken responsibility for demolition costs, signaling a commitment to peace. However, the All Himachal Muslims Organisation plans to legally challenge the order, invoking further debate over the legitimacy of the unauthorized structures and pending approvals.
