In a significant bust, Odisha police have exposed an inter-state gang involved in defrauding individuals of gold by posing as agents offering cleaning services. Nine suspects have been apprehended, and authorities have recovered 103 grams of stolen gold, three motorcycles, mobile phones, and other items.
Operating in states such as Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha, the gang members, aged between 30 and 42, have been implicated in 21 cases within the Rourkela district since 2021, using a calculated modus operandi.
The gang, consisting of duos, would divert homeowners' attention while pretending to clean their gold ornaments before making off with the valuables. They were residing in a rented property in the Gopabandhupali area, according to DIG Brijesh Kumar Rai of the Western Range.
