Manipur Congress Appeals for Aid to Displaced by Ethnic Violence

In an urgent appeal, Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra has requested the 16th Finance Commission to prioritize aid for the 60,000 individuals displaced by ethnic violence in the state.
Addressing the press at Congress Bhavan, Keisham revealed that a memorandum was submitted to the commission's chairman, detailing compensation needs for those who lost lives and property, as well as resettlement and rehabilitation plans for the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The party also asked for financial packages to support urban local bodies and autonomous district councils (ADCs) impacted by the conflict. With the state budget for 2024-25 shrinking, the local economy is at risk, Keisham warned. Additionally, the memorandum highlighted the necessity for infrastructure development, including universities and hospitals.
