Call for Accountability: Former SGPC Chief Demands Action Over Derogatory Remarks

Former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur has urged action against current president Harjinder Singh Dhami over his alleged degrading comments about her. The issue was brought to the Punjab State Women Commission, which will seek legal counsel and decide on further steps. Dhami had tendered a written apology.

In a recent development, former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Bibi Jagir Kaur has called for measures against the current president, Harjinder Singh Dhami, following alleged derogatory comments made by him. The controversy escalated after an audio clip surfaced on social media, prompting Kaur to approach the Punjab State Women Commission.

Speaking at a press conference, Kaur expressed her dismay, stating that Dhami's remarks were not only a personal affront but also offensive to women and the Sikh community at large. She emphasized the responsibility of the SGPC president to maintain the dignity associated with the position.

In response, Dhami has issued a written apology and appeared before the Commission. Commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill confirmed they would seek legal insight before proceeding with any necessary action, underlining the importance of upholding standards of respect and dignity.
