India is providing robust diplomatic assistance to Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse on death row in Yemen. Priya, from Kerala, was convicted for allegedly murdering a Yemeni national. New Delhi is actively engaging in exploring legal options for her case.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed the involvement, stating, "We understand the family is considering relevant legal options, and the government is offering all possible support in this matter."
Priya's case, which initially resulted in a capital punishment verdict in 2020, saw Yemen's Supreme Judicial Council uphold the decision in 2023, with President Rashad al-Alimi reportedly approving the death sentence.
